House of Blues

Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing a friend of mine whale on the sax with his band. I’ve always know Jordan was a good sax player, but he and the band brought down the house!

Sad to learn that the LA/Hollywood House of Blues is closing in July 2015. According to one of the bouncers, the property was sold, leaving about 200 employees updating their resumes and Linkenin accounts. I asked if HOB plans on relocating but he was not aware of any plans.

By 7pm the floor was packed with friends, family members and jazz lovers. The band opened with an aggressive piece that got the crowds’s attention. Their last song had everyone dancing with Stevie Wonder’s funk hit, Superstition. I’ve never heard a cello used as a bass, along with a jazz guitar, drums and sax. The Band produced an amazing, almost haunting but upbeat sound.

If encores were allowed that night, I’m sure there would’ve been one or two. The crowd’s reaction was encouraging.

As for me, I was all over the House, shooting from every angle I could within the time it took to do three songs. When the show was over, the DJ spun a little Get Up Offa That Thing by James Brown. I couldn’t help but dance!

Great job, Jordan and the Band!
